Hello all,
K2 #3827 is very alive, kicking and working plenty of DX including =
G3BJ at 8 watts on 160 during the Stew Perry contest. I did discover one =
potential pitfall that may be of interest to others with a carpet in =
their shack. After installing the KSB2 with MH2 microphone I found I =
could reset the main microprocessor by simply moving my feet across the =
carpet then touching the mic connector. After awhile I realized that the =
mic connector on the K2 is soldered to the front panel board and not =
mounted to the front panel itself so the shell never sees ground. It was =
a simple task to add a solder lug in place of 1 lockwasher under the =
outboard standoff next to the connector shell on the front panel board =
then use a piece of hookup wire and solder it to the side of the mic =
connector shell. It requires a little more heat and time on connection =
than normal but the shell accepts rosin core solder very nicely. That =
fixed it. Now my K2 lives in peace with the carpet and the cat!
Much thanks to Scott at Elecraft for sending the 1mh choke to replace =
the one I managed to destroyed during RF board construction! 3 day =
shipping coast to coast just before Xmas! The K160RX, KSB2, KNB2 and =
KDSP2 units are all installed and working perfectly - now on to the =
K2/100.=20
HNY and gud DX,
