Oh oh, I just fixed my clicks and now this to worry about! When I was
checking for clicks I noticed what appeared to be phase noise as well.
I was running less than 5 watts into a dummy load, and was listening on
my TS850s with antenna shorted and preamp off, giving me about an S9
signal. I don't know why I should have heard anything except the main
signal from the K2, and I don't know whether the noise was generated in
the 850, the K2, or somehow was a result of the way I did the test.

I have an Alpha 86 about 4 feet from the K2, and although it was off at
the time of the test, now I'm wondering if it's safe to use it. I
wonder if replacing the bottom plate with a steel one (it wouldn't be
too hard to make) would help? Earl, does just turning on the amplifier
in standby mode cause modulation of he signal?
