[Elecraft] Zero-beating with the KX1

I saw on the reflector a while back a discussion of zero beating incoming signals with the KX1, and the suggestion was to use the STP menu to compare the tone of the incoming signal to that of your own side tone.

I've been doing it this way for a while - I find this process a little cumbersome. As an alternative, I tried changing mode to LSB or USB and tuning for the audio null - seems to work better for me, anyway.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?  

I was wondering whether there might be a firmware mod to facilitate zero-beating - an unused button combo maybe?
