has to be drawn somewhere, I guess.
Phil, it should have been apparent that Elecraft would soon
introduce a production version of the K2 including the keying mod
since that mod has been public knowledge for several months. That's
why I waited to order one until it was announced...an added bonus is
getting a completely updated manual, which was another concern, but
not a "show stopper" that would have prevented me from ordering.
Although it would be nice if the mod was no cost for older K2's,
we must remember that Elecraft is running a business, and that there
is real cost associated with the parts and firmware. Let's all just
consider the alternatives. Yaesu has been producing the FT-1000MP
family since 1995, and they have yet to even acknowledge problems
such as key clicks, IF hiss, AGC issues, etc. Update kits for all
of these have been provided by Inrad, not the manufacturer, and to
my knowledge, none of these issues have been addressed in current
production units...AFTER 9 YEARS!!! Shame, shame, shame. :-((
Elecraft must be commended for their excellent customer
responsiveness and citizenship in actively addressing issues like key
clicks. Hopefully most older K2's will get the key click treatment,
especially those that will be running more than QRP.
