[Elecraft] Reading my DMM

Hello everyone,
I'm new to kit building, except for a code practice key that only sort of
worked, and a cheap 20 M receiver that did not work. So it is with a bit
of fear and trepidation that I have started to build the K1. Most of the
building has gone well to this point - a few glitches along the way, but
mostly ok.
Actually, at this point I'm not sure if I'm having trouble reading the
DMM correctly, or if there is a problem with the particular component I'm
looking at. It's the U1 socket on the front panel board of the K1, and
with my DMM, every pair of adjacent soldered pads reads "1." with no
flashing numbers (like the manual says I should see). That is, except
for two pairs of adjacent pads, where there are flashing numbers for just
a second or so, then it reverts to "1." Incidentally, the DMM is the $10
one from web-tronics.com, their catalog # CSI830. It worked ok for other
tests on the filter board.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Jeff
