Greetings:
I purchased a used K-2 with SSB board (#3441), and received it last =
week. 1st impressions were very good; rig looked and sounded FB, but =
noted that WWV came in on 9999.18. Ok, no big deal. Tried working some =
of the CW stations warming up for the DX contest, but no one seemed to =
hear me. Hmmm. Fired up the Ten-Tec rig and checked my K-2 TX frequency- =
turns out that the K-2 was transmitting nearly 2 kHz away from the =
receive frequency. Split the VFO's to negate the offset, and quickly =
worked a few stations. Time to check the manual!
After reading up, ran all the calibration routines a few times, and got =
everything back up to snuff. Checked the transmit, and it was right on. =
Put the rig through its paces in the DX test this weekend, using 5 watts =
to attic dipoles, and ended up with 165 q's and 118 band countries. Not =
a bad start....I'm very impressed with this radio. I've owned or used =
several "high-end" rigs, and this one, especially the receiver, is right =
up there with the "Big Boys". Looking forward to enjoying this rig for =
a long time. Nice job, Elecraft! The only problem now- which other =
options to buy and build.....
