John,
The first thing I would check is the power to the amplified mic. If you are
using the K2's 5 volt supply, you should be able to check it from the front
side of the mic connector (nothing to disassemble).
Next, I'd make certain nothing has come loose on your mic header. The front
panel assembly is easy to remove (6 screws) unless you have the KAF2 or
KDSP2 installed.
