But, the K2 doesn't do cross modes very well, one must be in CW mode to send CW, and many have the CW filters setup for CW only, not SSB so hearing a SSB station while in CW mode is not good either.

Those with the SSB adapter COULD work cross mode IF the OP1 filter is used in one of the CW filter positions - then use CW and CWr modes to select either LSB or USB as required for the SSB station.  The CW frequency offset is another matter that I have not thought about yet, but I'm certain that could be dealt with for those wishing for cross-mode operation.
