You have tried another mic and no output on SSB. I think it would be
unlikely you had two bad mics....so-o-o-o
1) Having made a fool of myself more than once on this one, be sure all the
supply voltages are present and accounted for.
Then....
2) I would set up as if I was going to do a carrier balance adjustment (pg
19 Elecraft KSB2 Manual), only I would unbalance the carrier and with the
power control set at about 2 watts or so (K2 on a dummy load) and see if I
had power out. If so then the problem would seem to be one of audio, i.e.
the speech compressor and/or associated components. If not, it is probably
time to break out the rf probe and to do a little signal tracing to find
what is missing.

I too am running an amplified D104(homebrew emitter follower amp) and lovin'
it. I have not been on SSB a lot because I am concentrating on getting my cw
talents going (as if I ever had any). I read the other day one way to stave
off dementia( 71 yrs young)is to exercise your brain and take on new
challenges. For me, CW is a real challenge although not a new one!

I hope this helps in some manner. I have not seen any responses from the
gurus, so thought I would throw this out.
