[Elecraft] K160RX Not Recognized by MCU

Thanks to everyone for the rapid replies on my "can't select 160 meters"
issue.

I called to chat with Gary today, but he was busy, so I spoke with Richard
and he suggested a master MCU reset (with main power off, hold down 4 - 5 -
6 and then turn on power). Well by golly - it worked - I can now access 160
along with all the other bands.

Heaven knows why the MCU wasn't seeing the 160 M relay on the K160RX add on
board, but I guess it wasn't - or the software went partially "dumb."

I am interested in the updates mentioned to the KDSP2 and KSB2 - the KDSP2
was assembled last summer - I guess when they were relatively new. The KSB2
I purchased in 11/02 along with the K2. I guess I'll have to review the
website for updates / changes to all the add-ons - which I haven't ever done
since the rig worked perfectly.

Also regarding the Omron latching relays (still on a current product on
their website) - I today, learned how latching relays work (I think). In the
case of the relay on the 160 add-on, you apply +6Vdc and a return path to
pins 1 & 10 on the relay pins. Can't recall now, but that application of
voltage with either set or reset the relay. If you reverse the polarity to
pins 1 & 10 the relay will move to the opposite position. After looking at
this action with a scope, I could see that there never was a "negative"
going voltage applied to the coil, only a "positive" going voltage. Unless
I'm mistaken (and I certainly could be) the software was never telling the
I/O controller U1 to move the relay on the 160 add-on board to the other
position. I tried this manually with an outboard power supply and the 160
board removed from the K2 - the relay "set" and "reset" exactly as Wayne and
Eric's schematic (and the Omron website info) suggested it would. After
confirming ~0 ohms from the actual relay pins back to U1 on the RF board and
checking the ground connection out (return path for the relay coil) I was
convinced it wasn't the 160 add-on board. Richard at Elecraft suggested the
master reset & holy smokes - it worked. Wish I had done that about 3 hours
earlier.

Oh well, I wouldn't have learned anything about latching relays if I had
tried the reset first -- hi hi.

Again, thanks for all the suggestions guys.
