Aaaaarg! These young whippersnappers who (mis)write the ARRL stuff <G>.=20
Dipole is a half wave antenna, by definition. It can be center fed =
(common
for the low feed impedance that is a decent match to common coax) or end =
fed
or something in the middle. For example, a "windom" that is a half wave =
long
and fed with a single wire off center is also, in Antenna Engineering =
terms
a "dipole". Half wave is the key.
Doublet is any center fed antenna - from what I've seen in the =
literature.
The operative term is "center feed". I'm not sure if anyone cares if the
sides are of equal length, but they usually are to help reduce radiation
from open wire line (open wire line depends upon equal and opposite =
currents
in each line to suppress radiation and pickup along its length).=20
So a center fed dipole is a doublet, but that's the ONLY doublet that's =
a
dipole <G>.

The March QST has an article by the editor, Steve Ford, describing =
Classic
Multiband Doublet Antennas on page 65 that would work well in an attic. =
If
the antenna tuner is the remote type, it could be located in the attic =
also,
with coax to the transmitter. Unfortunately, the article characterizes =
the
antenna as a dipole. Since it is used as a multiband antenna, it is a
doublet. Recent editions of the ARRL antenna handbook blur the =
difference
between a dipole and a doublet. Now I'm getting confused. 73 - Rick =
