Howdy Bob,
While I was checking frequencies before I started the net on 7043 kHz I heard
someone ask ECN ? on 7045 kHz to which he received NO. I checked 7045 a number of
times as I was checking frequencies and it remained occupied right up until I started the
net at 0300z on 7043 kHz. The reason I move down on 40 meters is because of a
Canadian SSB net which has precedence over my informal net.
ECN may still stand for Eastern Canada Net but I was stuck with this acronym early
on. I never chose it, it just kind of grew on me like the Oregon moss :) Oh, by the
way, we are now having a typical Oregon Winter day: rain, rain, and more rain.
Sometimes it gets heavy but it has ceased being sunny. We were not used to it
anyway :)
I sent ECN a lot on 7043 kHz but it appears the bands was quite dead because a
number of folks mentioned they never heard me when they went searching. Never the
less I was calling for over ten minutes with very short pauses. Normally when I have to
move that far from the scheduled frequency I make the preamble much longer so folks
can find me. In the past this has worked but last night I must not have been getting
out very well.
I'll dig on the net today to see if I can find the Eastern Canada Net and what their
schedule may be. Then I'll post my results. May just have to use the long form of the
net's name from now on. That will slow us down but that is a very good thing. I don't
want this to turn into a contest in any way shape or form!
   Hasta luego,
       Kevin. KD5ONS
