[Elecraft] Elecraft Net Report/2 for February 16, 2004

After checking 7045 and finding it busy I went down to 7043 (the first open
frequency). I called QRL a few times and then started the net right on at 0300z. I
never, never start up before my appointed time. If there is someone on frequency
before the time posted it is not me. If the NCS does not slow down to your speed
when you call it is not ECN. The net was set up by me to run slowly because that was
the only way I could run then.
It is important to me that all operators are welcome. You don't have to be fast and
you don't have to have an Elecraft rig to join in. When the net is run folks chat a little
bit and then move on. If the Elecraft CW Net ever starts to resemble a contest I will
be very disappointed and will most probably cease to run it. It is supposed to be
informal. I try to remember everyone's name and use it when I can. I fail sometimes, I
make mistakes, and I truly flub up on numbers. But I try to make folks welcome. That
is the purpose of ECN. I want folks to meet on the air and find other like minded folks.
If the net is running too fast, most especially if I am running too fast, holler at me. I
don't care if you send QRS a dozen times in a row. It is my failing and not yours! I will
run as slow as need be. If you like running faster I may send someone else off to copy
you because I have limits. I cannot copy more than about 20 wpm under these
circumstances.
Last night after I wrote the net report with no check ins I looked around for someone
to chat with. I got to 7045 kHz and found ECN being called. I tried checking in with my
'hail sign'. It was repeated so I tried to check in and asked a question. When I got no
response to my question or attempted check in I moved on to another frequency.
Then I gave up radio for the evening and wrote some software.
