[Elecraft] question on licensing - extra

The Advanced - and Novice - class license is no longer issued, since - what?
2000, I think. It is still being renewed as long as the license holder
wishes. The proposal I suspect you read - the ARRL proposal to the FCC - is
recommending the Advanced class licenses currently held be merged with the
Extra Class licenses, as they have passed Element 4 already, and the code
speed of 20 WPM for the Extra has essentially gone away, at 5 WPM. As of
right now there are only three classes of license a new licensee can
receive, the three you mentioned. ARRL is recommending a new entry level -
Novice - class be instituted, with HF allocations beyond what used to be
available to Novice holders, as opposed to the VHF/UHF freqs of a Technician
license.

Is this what you're looking for? I'm sure you'll get more info that I
probably missed.

Brad
