Jim,

I urge you not to solder directly to the mike header pins. Eventually, you 
will want to change mikes and you'll have to play around with all that 
solder mess. 

I soldered to the pins originally, then cleaned them up and used the 
header method that Tom N0SS suggested. When I got a Kenwood mike 
(straight through connections on the header pins), I just pulled the 
header assembly off, and used the little jumpers that you find on PC 
cards.
