Crafters',
Ok, just so I get this right. I've read over the literature and I think I've
got it but I just want to make sure.
I've installed the KAT100-2 and KPA100 into an EC2 enclosure (I'll call it a
KATPAC; K = Elecraft, of course, AT = tuner, PA = power amp, and C = 100).
It looks to me that all I have to do is;
- Run a I/O cable from the K2 to the KATPAC (I know either the KAT100-2 I/O
or the KPA100 I/O will work),
- Run a BNC-BNC coax jumper from the K2 Ant 1 to the KAT100 Aux RF In,
and,
- Run a PL259-PL259 coax jumper from the KPA100 Ant to the KAT100-2 RF In.
I've read that the inductor on the I/O pc board in the K2 needs to be
increased to accept the higher current load due to the demands of the
KATPAC. I guess I'll get around to it sooner or later, but is it really an
issue?
Also, let's say that I leave the K2/KATPAC all hooked up, does the KAT100-2
takes over control of the tuning functions from the KAT2 even at low power
(i.e.: QRP)? What about if I don't power up the KATPAC? I've noticed that
the the KAT100-2 still trys to wrestle control of the tuning functions, even
without power. Is this right?
All righty then, let me simplify and restate;
1. Three cables (I/O and two coax jumpers); right?
2. Increase I/O inductor; is it a big deal?
3. KAT100-2 has a Neopoleon Complex; right?
Wayne, Eric, et al, this is slicker than Willie. What a sweet set-up!
Lyle (KK7P) and John (KI6WX), thanks for the info on remoting the KPA100.
Cheers,
Colin
