I had been using SWL DSW-20, -30, and -40 DDS mono-band rigs, so when
the K1 was announced I was disappointed that it didn't use a simple DDS.
What I sought was the stability of DDS.
Since I built my K1 in 2000, I find now that I prefer the improved receiver
performance and the lower spurious transmitter output of the K1 without
DDS.
Not many current DDS chips can be clocked high enough to generate the
frequencies required for 15m operation. So I could not have my favorite
QRP band. I'll take almost any QRP rig with 15m coverage over any without
it, regardless of other feature differences.
SSB for the K1 is of no interest to me.
The only display change I'd like to see would be a full-length six-digit frequency
display (smaller number characters are OK) and a separate bar graph displayed
simultaneously with frequency to show signal strength/power out.
BTW, this is off-topic, but the Jackson Harbor Press DSWK enhanced (greatly)
replacement PIC for the SWL DSW is a tremendous value at a give-away price
($7). I've installed one in all three of my DSW rigs.
