John,
You should have had the carrier on the same frequency. Since it was not, I
would believe your BFOs for SSB FL1 are not set correctly.
Brief instructions follow --
Use Spectrogram (or Spectrum Lab) and set markers at 300 Hz and 2300 Hz
(that is assuming the stock K2 SSB filter - modify the high marker if you
have one of the wider filters)
Then put a wideband noise source into the antenna jack (the N-Gen if you
have one, or 'dead band' noise if you don't) - you should see the passband
displayed in the Spectrogram window -- if not, look at some of the documents
on Spectrogram use from www.elecraft.com.
Set the BFO for both LSB and USB so the displayed passband is centered
between the 2 markers. BIG hint - take the audio from the external speaker
jack, turn the KSDP2 off and remove the KAF2 (the headphone jack and these 2
options have low pass filters that will cut the high frequency end
dramatically and throw your observations off).
If you also set FL2 thru FL4 as progressively narrowing filters, keep the
low frequency corner of the passband close to 300 Hz - i.e. cut the high
frequency content of the demodulated audio, but keep the low frequency end
at the same place.
If you need even more information, see the K2 Dial Calibration article on my
website www.qsl.net/w3fpr.

Don W3FPR
