Hello again all:
Well, ......can you say "DUHHHHHHH"?
After numerous postings here requesting assistance; after numerous
emails from my fellow K2 owners; after corresponding with Gary at
Elecraft for about a month....I have now corrected the problem that has
me kept me in limbo for over a month.
The problem....I failed to install Toroid RFC16. Because I used prewound
toroids naturally, I did not pay close attention to the steps where it
addressed the winding of the toroids. On page 51, unlike other toroid
winding steps where it indicates to install the toroid separate from the
winding instructions, the RFC16 instructions to install are lumped in
with winding. This was a MAJOR overlook on my part. I also installed a
new 1451 U5 chip, as a last resort.
Once I installed the toroid, the 'ol girl runs a very nice 13.36 kHz on
PLL range.
My very special thanks to Gary at Elecraft (the best customer service in
the world, bar none!!!!), Joe Ford (K4NVJ), and all the other very
special new friends that have helped me here on the reflector. Thank you
VERY VERY much.
A very special thanks to James T. "Jim" Rogers (W4ATK) who I found lives
about a mile from my QTH. Thank you very much Jim for your excellent
troubleshooting. You, and the rest of my Elecraft friends have proven
that the true "ham radio community" is not dead.
I am sorry to have taken up so much of your time reading this. I just
wanted to extend my appreciation here on the reflector.
