During the building of my K2 #3850 with the following options KAF2,KSB2,K160RX, KAT2 installed, I experienced a couple of minor problems I couldn't solve.
One in partially, was the FMing problem I noticed while on CW with the sidetone turned on. After receiving several email from Elecraft Technical
Support what to look for and not having the proper test equipment, I decided to send my completed K2 to Elecraft for a good thorough check out, repair
and alignment.
In only Nine days , my K2 was sent to the west coast, repaired and sent back to my home here in Michigan with a full page detail repair report. Within 30 minutes after arriving, I was checking into the Bathrobe Net on 14.235.5 and talked to my friends who are wintering it out in Florida and Texas. With the K2 using a gel cell battery, I adjusted the K2 for 10 watts on SSB pushed the AutoTune and selected VOX for the Heil Pro-Set K2 headset microphone, all of my friends down south told me that I had more punch with the K2 than my 100 watt plus Icom or Kenwoods. Later in the day I checked into MIDCARS on 7258 and I received reports of S9 in MO, IL,,IN, & WI. With only a G5RV Antenna at 70 feet and a 580 foot full size 160 meter loop antenna , I will be in seventh heaven on CW and occasionally on SSB.
With the other kits I have built over the years I have to admit that they don't even come close to the K2. Yes I do have to admit. I did fall in love with the K2 and
I'll bet that I am not the first to admit it either. Heck! Now can't wait until Field Day.
In closing, many thanks to Gary Surrency - AB7MY and his staff at Elecraft Support. Not only did they answer my email in a timely manor but corrected the problems with K2 3850 in a very professional manner. You represent only the Highest Standards. Thanks for all of your help, Now I can look forward in operating that sweetheart of a rig for many years to come and hope to work many of you on the air.
Thanks again Elecraft for being there.
