Lee (and others):
I did own a KAT 100 and the relay noise was noticeable. The "metallic ring"
sound is accentuated by the resonances and vibrations of the cabinet,
especially if you have the KAT 100 mounted in a EC-2 enclosure.
I have been experimenting with a material (for lining the inside of an EC-2)
manufactured by Cascade Audio Engineering; their "VB-2" Damping material. It
is a special covering designed to dampen resonances and vibrations on
panels. It is in sheet form with adhesive on one side. To date, it is "by
far" the best material I have found to reduce cabinet vibrations. It is
very easy to work with. As I do not have the KAT 100 any longer, I have not
tried it in this specific application.
I have had no contact with this company except to but their products from a
retail store in my area. Their website is www.cascadeaudio.com. They
usually sell products into the "car audio" shops, so that might be a place
to source it in your local area if you want to experiment..
