Very perceptive!!! Installation of jumper W1 doesn't occur until page 56 in
the Rev F manual, while mention of using the XG1 occurs on page 47.
Of course, you are correct! You'll have to have a patent RF path in order
to obtain much of a signal from the XG1... though there might be a little
signal sneak thru, installing jumper W1 is certainly the BEST way to ensure
that you can hear something... heheh!
IN FACT... I'm not certain it'd even matter IF YOU DID install W1 at the
point you're presently at anyway... you still can't receive on 40M!!! NO
band-specific components have been installed yet, so there'd be no way to
receive the 7040kHz signal from the XG1 regardless...!
I'd suggest you bide your time until page 64 in the (Rev F) manual.. just
before you resume Assembly (Part III). THEN, you can perform S-meter
calibration using the XG1.
