Hi, Ward-
The toroidal cores are non-conductive, so it is okay if a tinned or bare
portion of the lead touches the core. With the toroids that I wind, I
purposefully make an effort to tin up to or onto the core in order to
eliminate the possibility of a builder pulling enamel into the hole in the
PCB during installation. For HF applications, this will not create a
problem.
You do not, of course, want to create shorts between adjacent or any
secondary windings.
