First, I don't see the point in using a audio output amplifier like the
LM380 or LM386 for an audio output. They are meant for driving
loudspeakers while an op-amp is ideally suited for line level outputs.
Second, there is room on the back of the front panel board for a small
PCB for such an amplifier, here's how I did it:

audio output, you can implement it without any loose wiring as all
signals are on the front panel board. I also output the sidetone, and
then I need one wire coming from the control panel.
