Nowadays, digital multimeter made by China has already been of good quality.
The price is only say USD30 per set depending on available functions.

I got my DMM at a price of USD35 with measurement of inductance, capacitance
and frequency counting.

I'd suggest a DMM (Digital Multimeter), not a VOM (Volt-Ohmmeter). Gregg may
have meant DMM in his message.

A DMM is built to produce low voltages in Ohms range that won't hurt the
components and it has a high (>10 meg) input resistance when measuring
voltages. VOM's often produce enough voltage in Ohms range to damage
solid-state components and their low input resistance can mean grossly wrong
voltage measurements at times. You really need to know what you're doing to
use a VOM when building modern gear like the KX1.
