[Elecraft] KAT2 and K60XV interaction

Hi

The problem I am having is when the KAT2 is connected to the K2 control =
board the loading on the VRFDET from the KAT2 is causing the ALC to work =
improperly. When setting the maximum output in the transverter menu to =
1.00 mw and setting the power out to maximum the output is only 0.65 mw =
this is also the value displayed on the K2. The KPA100 and KAT100 have =
tristate output op amps on the VRFDET line so they can be removed from =
the line by the firmware when they are not being used. The KAT2 does not =
have this type of circuit and the op amp driving the VRFDET line is =
always connected through a 47 ohm resistor. If there is no RF out of the =
KAT2 as is the case when using the low level transverter output then the =
op amp is setting a zero volts out this low impedance output is loading =
the VRFDET line. The K60XV has an op amp driving an emitter follower so =
it will take over the VRFDET line if required to control the ALC for =
transverter use. However the load by the KAT2 is too much so increasing =
the series resistor R6 in the KAT2 output solves the problem. I am using =
a 470 ohm resistor for R6 and this solves the problem with no affect on =
the operation of the KAT2.

  I too am using the kat2 and the kx60v with a split kat100/kpa100. =
When I
measured the output at the xvtr ouyt jacks with the com120c analyzer, =
I
noticed no problems. With the output programmed to 1mw, I recorded =
1mw on
the analyzer. All firmware was updated at the same time in all =
modules.

Did I miss something here? I thought if the output was coming from =
the
xvtr out jacks, the kat2 was ouit of the picture. I didn't test it at =
the
antenna output jacks at that point. I thought the swr bridge was =
after
  the kat2.
