Harry, the K2 has been a GREAT working rig from the earliest versions. =
The
changes have made it better, but the earliest versions require few, if =
any,
"apologies" in performance.=20
You have an "early" K2. Still I'd suggest building and testing it =
exactly as
the manual shows. It'll work FB when you are done.
Then, what mods you make can be based on what you want to change or =
improve.
Sverre,LA3ZA , has done a wonderful job of listing all the mods and =
which
serial numbers they apply to on his web site at:
http://www.qsl.net/la3za/K2/modAny.html
My K2 is slightly older than yours (S/N 1289) and the two most =
significant
mods I made as a CW operator were the audio gain control (which improves =
how
the audio gain control behaves and eliminates a tendency for it to =
become
"noisy" at low gain settings) and the PLL Reference Oscillator =
stabilization
mod. I equipped mine for SSB as well, so I found the "2nd Filter =
Flattening
Mod" invaluable for good sounding 'phone' reception!=20
Still, I recommend that you get the K2 up and running to your =
satisfaction
as documented in your manual before tackling ANY mods. Then make the =
mods
one at a time and test/align as necessary after each one. That way, =
should
something go "wrong" you will have a much easier time troubleshooting.=20
My final recommendation is to spend a little time working on the K2 each =
day
until it's finished, then get no the air with it. That inverted Vee in =
the
attic will be fine for now! Building and operating are wonderful =
relaxants
after a tough day house-hunting, Hi!

I will get my K2 built. I just had a Stent put in, and had some other
medical=20
problems, but I have not given up yet. K2 # 2531 will be on the air =
someday.
I=20
have all the goodies that I origionally bought with the K2, except for =
the=20
high power amp. I got up to step two, in testing the receiver portion. =
My=20
question is, should I go on with the building from that point without =
any
changes=20
from the origional instructions, or add on's ?, or should I make any
changes,=20
add on's, etc.?. I am 71 years old, and we are looking for our final =
house
here=20
in New Jersey, which is not easy. I am looking for a place where I can =
set
up=20
a decent Ham shack with a good antenna system. My wife even promised me =
a=20
tower, when we find the right area. LOL. 73's to all. P.S. Any help, or=20
suggestions with the above, would be appreciated. Sincerely, Harry De =
Veau,
K2 2531,=20
KA2HVL. Right now I am using a 15 meter inverted Vee antenna in the =
attic,
about=20
25 feet high, with a water pipe ground on the second floor. I have an =
Icom

Pro II. Now you can see why I want to find a better place for my shack.
73's.
