Hi
This is almost always one of two things a bad or missed solder joint on =
the LCD or LCD driver or a pin bent under or not in the socket on the =
LCD driver IC. It is normal that the LCD pins do not go through the =
board. You must hold the soldering iron on each pad a little longer than =
normal so the solder will flow through to the top side. Look over each =
joint on the top to make sure it has a good connection. Touch up any bad =
joints on the top side if necessary. Watch out for pin one on the IC's =
all of the pads are square except pin one. When soldering a row of pins =
your mind will get set to look only at square pads and you will miss the =
round pad one thinking it is a feed through. (at least this has happened =
to me)
The LCD should have a very high contrast and be easy to read even from =
across the room.=20

I have been building on my K2 for about a week, off and on, and I'm at =
the point of testing the first part. Everything seems to be going just =
fine except for the LCD.
It seems that not all of the segments are displaying right. In the =
normal operating mode, the last two digits, after the decimal point =
don't display entirely. I can move the VFO and the segments that was not =
displaying now displays just fine. In other modes they work fine, on =
some menu items and not on others. It is hard to explain but I hope you =
understand what I'm trying to say.
Do you find the LCD hard to read at times?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Bob
