Ted,
Please check out my website www.qsl.net/w3fpr article on K2 dial
calibration. It has information about not only setting the reference
oscillator, but properly setting the filters (CAL PLL) as well. I recommend
using the N6KR method to set the reference - it does not require external
equipment - unless you use Spectrogram (or similar) to determine exact zero
beat with WWV.
I DO recommend Spectrogram or another audio spectrum analyzer for setting
the filters and their associated BFOs properly. If you have the gift of
perfect pitch, you can do a good job without it, but for the majority of us
'normal' folks, Spectrogram or similar is a must.
