When I changed from W6QAS - a call I had for 25 years - to AC6Y when the
2X1's first came out, I was fine from the get-go for several months. =
Then,
at times when I was thinking about other things the other station in the =
QSO
would start going "???". What was happening was that I unthinkingly
reverting to signing W6QAS in the middle of a QSO.=20
Twenty years as AC6Y and I came to Oregon and asked the FCC computer to
punch out a "7" call from the list and got AC7AC. Yep, once or twice =
after
that I caught myself sending "AC6..." I always caught it at the "6" so =
the
other guy just thought I was sloppy at the bug.=20

...But for anyone else contemplating changing their call, I have to =
agree
with Mark ... if you're going to go for a vanity call, be absolutely =
sure !!
After 17 years, I changed from N2ELW to W2LJ....it took a =
looooooooooooong
time to get used to not being N2ELW. And while I've had W2LJ for four =
years
now; I find there are times, even to this day, when I'm extra tired, I =
still
occasionally find myself sending N2 and then catching myself and =
re-sending
W2LJ. And some of my oldest Ham friends still slip and refer to me as
"ELW". If you have a call for a bit of time, it really becomes part of =
you!
