Thanks for the reply Wayne. Please understand that I am thrilled with the 30
meter capability. It is my favorite band. And I am totally glad that you did
make the room for it. I also have no problem with the hard wiring. Just had
the thought that it could have not been intended to be there in the
original.

I have just completed the 30 meter module and the auto tuner. All is working
beautifully. Just a caution though. If you screw and unscrew the fastener
for the final transistor a lot, or perhaps make it too tight, the thin metal
at the base of the hole from the screw being counter sunk, can get out of
shape. This can cause a rather sharp edge to point down towards the
transistor, acutally mushrooming the hole a bit to the point that it slips
past the insulating pad mounted to the case. I thought that I had a short in
the 30 meter module when the case was all fastened up. Easy enough to fix,
just filed the hole a bit and re-sandpapered the inside to make sure that
all was smooth and flat. Then just did not fasten the screw as tight. Just
something to watch for.

Thanks again, Wayne and Eric for a awesome radio. Did not intend to make it
sound as if the "engineering" of the 30 meter section was being knocked. In
fact, I was totally impressed with the way that all of the components on the
main board, tuner board, and 30 meter module were designed to just miss each
other. Certainly a LOT of radio in a very tiny box. It is also my subjective
opinion at this point that the receiver is better than the one in the K1 and
I am not missing the K2 either. This is the only Elecraft HF rig that I have
right now and I am not sure that I will be missing the others anytime soon.

Why did I sell the K2? Not sure. Just felt too much like a off the shelf
rig, even though I built it and wanted to get back to the simpler roots of
radio and QRP that I started from. And it went to someone that cannot build.
Same with the K1. It went to an older ham with bad eyes that could not build
and did not have to the budget to pay to have it built.

Again, sorry to be windy, but thanks for another absolutely wonderful radio
and building experience!

as nicely fit and engineered as the auto tuner is and all of the add ins for
the K1 and K2 that I have built, the 30 meter add in for the KX1 seems a bit
more "kludgy" than I am used to seeing in the Elecraft kits. Anyone know?
