I have one of these.  I live in California, so obviously the situation 
isn't the same, but I had a hard time finding a spot in my shack where 
it would work and I could still see it.  I finally mounted it high on 
the wall, near the ceiling, over my operating position.  I hung it so it 
would be about 45 degrees from vertical (so I could read the digits). 
Now it manages to set itself almost every day, but I definitely could 
not get it to work in more conventional locations.
