Living in South Florida, I keep several banks of batts charged up and the K2
in top shape during this time of year. Several backup, portable antenna
systems are also at the ready.

Our thoughts are with those in the path of Isabel.

All the best... Stay safe.

Subject: [Elecraft] Hurricane Curiousity

Wonder how many Elecraft owners here on the Mid-East Coast are/have
prepared for possible emegency operations?

I've got about 3 extra gel cells charged up, flashlights, nylon twine and
precut wires for antenna/counterpoises.

Oh...a "CW isn't useless" observation. Back in the 60's during Hurricane
Agnes, the local government needed a "secure" link established over
the FM radio link between the National Guard and the City governement.

We solved it very easily...one ham went to the National Guard armory,
another was at the City Hall. We "sounded out" cw into the mikes at
either end...it was reasonably secure, and Ham Radio got all sorts of PR
in the local press....One phrase I recall was the "Dit-Dah Barbershop".

The mayor graciously provided 807s to those that participated(I still have
a head ache).
