If you already have the KAT100-1 and now want to remote your KPA100 and
tuner, your reasoning may be valid - although I have not compared the prices
of the parts other than the 2D fasteners, and they are $2 each (you will
need 8 of them = $16.00), and the current price for the EC2 on the Elecraft
website is $59 rather than the $69 that you quoted (guess the price came
down), so you may actually end up spending more bux by ordering the pieces
(I really don't know).

If you are ordering the KAT100 new, just order the KAT100-2, it comes with
the EC2 front and back panels and is priced at $20 below the self contained
KAT100-1.  Sure you spend an additional $59 for the EC2 box, but you will
get the enclosure and the front and rear panels for only $39 more than the
cost of the self contained KAT100-1 (no need to order the separate front and
rear panels. The tilt stand will cost you an added $11.50 in all my cost
comparisons above.

panel kit why cant i save money and just order the front and rear panel kit
for 35$ get the 2 side panels and the bottom panel with 3inch tiltstand some
2d fastners I have plenty of leftover 4-40 screws.  I would not need the top
cover or front and rear panels that come with the ec2. In other words I
would pay 69 for an EC2 Box and most of it would sit in my closet as the amp
makes up half the box.  Or am I overlooking something.  By the way the ham
asking bout the buddipole I am very happy with mine I forgot the call sorry.
