Excellent Wayne, thanks.

The mod that 'did it for me' was the AF gain pot mod.  Although my K2 
(2000 series) had adequate volume from first build when used indoors, it 
still had to be set close to max.  Post the AF pot mod, full volume is 
much more than i could possibly use in a normal environment; settings 
now are around 9 o'clock.
