[Elecraft] Remote Antenna Tuner

Not to throw water on the fire...but I did some work back in the 70's
supporting AM broadcast stations....now most stations have multiple
antenna arrays and their patters (day vs night) are very particular as
per FCC specs here in the United States. Granted the power levels are a
little higher on some of them (50kW) but most of the small stations are
1kW....sounds like a Ham Station to me.
Well take a look some time at the little shack at the base of each
tower. Yep you guessed it...the antenna tuners (phasing networks) are
in those shacks. Now don't you think that if it wasn't that important
that they would just do all the phasing/tuning at the transmitter
shack...not at the individual tower shacks.
Just a little something to mull over. Yes there are many other factors
involved but I'm sure there are a few of you out there using phased
arrays on 80 meters and I'm sure your networks are out at the antennas.
Thought I'd just stir up a bigger hornet's nest than the one already
going.
(PS....unfortunately I don't have a large antenna farm...being a city
dweller on 0.3 acres of land...okay it's a small city of 10k).

G'day folks,
Not sure I want to put my head up over the wall again! Actually, in my
post
I said "where it should be" not "needs" but I won't split hairs over
that.
OK, I accept that it was perhaps a little too forceful, however, I
believe
that there has been significant justification for the desirability under
certain circumstances for remoting the tuner.
