Hi Paul,
I and many other K2 builders have faced the same choice you described. My
decision was to purchase the KPA100 and the EC2 enclosure. That gives me
an external 100 watt PA, preserving the K2 as a QRP rig for portable use.
I will later add the KAT100-2 tuner, which is packaged for installation in the
EC2 enclosure instead of as a stand-alone. If you have the KAT2 internal QRP
tuner in your K2, it is used when operating at QRP levels. The 100 watt tuner is
automatically selected when you hook up the KPA100/KAT100 combo for
medium power output.
If you prefer, you can simply remove the QRP top and substitute the KPA100
top on the K2, converting it to a K2/100, but then you would need the KAT100-1
external tuner if you need that feature.
