What I have found are ops sending at character speeds of 20 to 30 wpm =
but
sending and only able to copy at speeds of 10 wpm or so.=20

And they have said that they can't copy someone sending at a "real" 10 =
or 15
wpm. They hear the letter "C" as "T E T E", for example. I jump off the =
bug
and onto the straight key at about 15 wpm. I'm astonished how often I =
end up
doing that. Ops talk constantly at sending at 20 wpm or more, but I find =
a
great many ops sending in the 10-15 wpm range.=20

When we talk CW speeds, I'm always inclined to assume it's like =
describing
the size of the fish we catch.=20

I guess we would have to refer to any QST paper Farnsworth surely =
published,
but I believe the method incorporates the assumption you close up the
spacing as you up the speed of learning??? Again, that was what I was
always told/ learned/ heard the code as closer spaced after you learned =
the
basic characters and went above say 7 wpm. Just seems logical to close =
up
the spacing as you up the speed. IF the character is already at say 15 =
or
so, how else do you up the aggregate speed? -Stuart K5KVH
