[Elecraft] I transmit 50Hz lower than I receive

Bill,

Partly correct --

The K2 uses the same BFO for transmit and receive in CW mode. With the SSB
option installed, when in SSB (or RTTY if enabled) mode, the BFO settings
for FL1 are used for transmit. (FL1 is usually set to OP1 for SSB, but does
not need to be so).

An apparent shift in transmit/receive frequencies in SSB usually indicates
that the SSB passband is not set quite right -- you may be listening with an
audio passband of 250 Hz to 2300 Hz, and when transmitting, one also
transmits an audio passband of 250 Hz to 2300 Hz, but the person at the
other end is listening at a passband of 300 to 2350 Hz. I recommend that
you realign the BFOs for the OP1 filter and optimize the setting for your
particular voice characteristics.

If you do not have a second receiver that will allow you to make a recording
(judge your voice on a recording rather than attempting to do it
'real-time'), try adjusting the BFO about 20 Hz at a time and try it out
with a friend who knows your voice to determine which setting seems to
produce a more natural sounding voice.

| If I recall correctly, the radio always transmits with OPT1. If Merlin is
| using a CW filter that has the BFO adjusted 50 Hz off from the settings of
| OPT1, would that cause his problem?. I'm assuming of course he has the
SSB
| option installed.

| Maybe I'm wrong about that, but it sticks in my head from somewhere.
