[Elecraft] KX1

Hello guys, just built my KX1 #21 last PM. Fun and easy to build. I had no
problems and everything checked out ok during construction. But (there's
always a but)  I have a few questions to the field testers and Wayne/Eric:

1) After initiating a tune cycle, whether the ATU is installed or not, I
have a problem with the keyer. If I "stop" the tune cycle with either the
dit or dah paddle, I get a short string of "dits" exactly 4 each time. When
listening on another receiver it sounds like key down and not separate dits.
The string will stop on its own after the four dits. If I stop the tune
cycle by hitting the menu/band/RIT button, this does not happen. Furthermore
if I do get the string of dits, I need to cycle the power for the rig to
work properly again. Is this normal?

2) How do you calibrate the S-meter, the manual refers to p65 with is only a
table describing the parameters, but not the calibration process.

3) Receive audio output is low, I need to crank up the volume to the 12
o'clock position or higher to drive my headphones.  Might just be poopy
conditions, but my K1 and K2 seem to be doing ok VS the KX1.

Any suggestions?
