I can understand, but I've always found it to be beneficial
in the long run to wait out the first few months of any new
product's availability, regardless of product and manufacturer.

The only time I violated rule that was with the K1 that I
pre-ordered in 2000 four months before it became available.
As it turned out, the K1 was amazingly mature at the time
of initial introduction, so I haven't been sorry about my
early bird status with the K1.  It is to be hoped that the
KX1 will be similarly ready for prime time without tweaking
modifications.

Frankly, the KX1 and add-ons are appearing far far quicker
than I would have expected.  Already one can check out the
manuals for the KX1 **and ALL the options** on the Elecraft
web site.  It was several months following the first delivery
of the K1 before the KNB1 and KAT1 became available.

I'll get my order in "just a little while," and enjoy reading
in the meantime the experiences of the low-serial KX1 owners.
