Ron,

BNC connectors are the de-facto 'standard' among the QRP community, and that
is a driving force in Elecraft's choice of connectors for the base K2 and
the K1.

If you are not up to putting your own BNC connectors on RG-58 coax, you
should be able to find cables with connectors already mounted at computer
places. They are used for networking with 10base2 (coax) networks and are
commonly available in lengths ranging from 6 ft. to 100 ft - yes, they are
real RG58 50 ohm coax. Computer stores that handle networking accessories
should have them even though the 10base2 networks are fading from the scene.
If you can find no other sources, JDR Electronics www.jdr.com shows them on
page 44 of their latest (#107) catalog - I mention them only because their
catalog was handy, no other intent implied.

An alternative is to use a BNC plug to UHF jack adapter (MIL type UG255/U)
to use your existing PL-259 connectors. Mouser www.mouser.com lists these
as their part number 523-2900 - beware though, these are costly, Mouser
wants $14.69 per each - maybe you can find some at a hamfest for a lot less.

| Folks, I need help. Where can one buy coax (and what type?) with a BNC
| connector already connected that will fit the BNC antenna connector on
| the back of the K-1? Secondly, are short patch cables available with
| these same BNC connectors? My only experience with antenna connectors
| for nearly half a century has been PL-259's and SO-239's, and I'm
| feeling pretty "ignorant" right now! I just need to know how to get an
| antenna attached to this cute lil' guy and thank you in advance for your
| help!
