[Elecraft] Fw: K2/100 and Astron supplies

I do the same thing, using a little plastic "step stool" to set it on.=20

Doesn't warm my toes that way, but it avoids my kicking the power switch =
and
keeps the dust bunnies out of it (and makes it easier to vacuum them =
up).=20

We used to mount land mobile 800/900 MHz FM radios right on top of the =
power
supply without problem, but many rigs are susceptible to the AC fields
around the transformer. When I first put my K2 on the air, I dropped it =
on
top of the Astron and got reports of "hum" on my signal which, =
considering
my call, many ops didn't think was so odd. Still, it wasn't good so I
started investigating. Every time I opened up the K2 the hum was gone.
Button it up again and there was hum. It took me an hour or two to =
realize
that I was buttoning it up AND setting it back on the power supply. Six
inches in front of the supply was enough for the hum to be eliminated, =
but I
liked the idea of getting the big power supply off of the operating =
desk.=20

Floyd,

My solution to that problem is to put the power supply on the floor =
under
the desk (I don't feel a need to look at the supply meters - in fact my
Astron RS-35A doesn't have meters). My RigRunner does sit on the =
operating
tabletop - but if you do not have multiple 12 VDC devices, the RigRunner =
is
superfluous - a single 5 ft. power cord suffices to reach the power =
supply
under the table. An added advantage of the floor positioned power =
supply is
that it serves as a nice toe warmer on cold winter days! <G>.
