[Elecraft] DSP Stinks (like temperature hot)

I built and installed the K2DSP awhile back and have been getting used to
it. The clock is easier to set than the analog filter/clock and it does
reduce noise as advertised.
But it smells! I noticed that I got the aroma of overheated something each
time I used old #1107 K2 and so I opened it up again (for about the 50th
time) and began looking for whatever was burning. The current drain is
about 83 ma (a little higher than the 60 ma nominal) when running. The 43
ohm resistor gets warm but nothing is burning or feels hot. The smell is
that of overheated epoxy so it might be that the circuit board has some
leakage path or a transistor is overheating or in backwards. I have looked
and checked and don't see anything. It seems to work as intended and all
functions are available. I have difficulty understand speech with the DSP
noise reducer on, but that could be due to my less than perfect hearing
(there is a mid-range hole in one ear).
I keep expecting to see smoke. Has anyone seen or smelled anything like
this?
