I thought I'd add my experience with building the K2 and tools I decided to
purchase. I have built a couple Heath Kits in the PAST, can't remember
exactly when past. In those days I used the bare minimum of cheap tools. The
work showed it.
When I decided to build the K2 I was a little worried by the part count and
complexity considering the money I planned to spend on the kit. I bought a
Radio Shack temp. controlled soldering station for $59.00 on sale, A $3 pair
of flushcut snips also at RS and a magnifying glass with light on an
extenible arm for $20 something at Staples. I left solder off this list,
because I look at correct solder as required by the kit. I never use
antistatic mats or wrist straps. I haven't ever had a problem, but I always
touch bare grounded metal before touching sensitive parts.
I could not have built the K2 anywhere near the same quality without this
investment. All the other items one might buy maybe nice to have and maybe
convenient, but K2 won't care.
