[Elecraft] Smashing Pileups in CQWW

The contest was a lot of fun. I managed to get some interesting DX with my
new-to-me K1: East Kiribati, Central Kiribati, New Zealand, Jamaica,
Galapagos, Bonaire Curacao, Aruba, Japan and Guatemala. Never could get the
ones I heard in Brazil, Phillipines or Austrailia. I don't think I ever
heard a European station, but I also got some good sleep on both nights.
Antenna was about 150' of wire hanging in a question-mark shape peaking
about 70'. I had about 3 radials cut for each band on 40 and 20. I could
work most strong stations, but usually not if they were down in the noise.
I was definitely impressed with the K1.
One mod I would love to work out for the K1 is a straight key or computer
keying input in addition to the paddle. I ran N3FJP's (www.n3fjp.com)
logging program on my computer, with an interface for CW control on the
parallel port. I also had a keyer/paddle with both tied to the K1 set to
"hand" keying input. If there was another input in addition to the normal
paddle/key, the extra keyer wouldn't be required.
Any ideas ?

Subject: [Elecraft] Smashing Pileups in CQWW
KX1 #112 continues to smash its way through the pileups in the CQ
Worldwide
CW contest this weekend. Well, maybe smash is overstating it a
little...squeaking through might be a better term. One learns patience
(and
how to use the memory keyer!) with QRP. But in the last 24 hours of
operation (not continuous by any means) I've made 34 contacts in all
lower
48 call districts except W6, which I still haven't even heard yet.
Total countries worked in the contest thus far is 7...most notably
England,
Poland and Canary Islands. I've also had a handful of German ops ask me
to
repeat my call several times, but give up in the end...sigh!
Pretty impressive for using a 24 ft piece of wire strung around my
bedroom!
Can't wait to wake up and get back on 20 metres!
73 for now,
