A Thanksgiving trip from Minnesota to New Jersey to visit in-laws gave me a chance to try out my recently completed KX1 #207 on the road. For an antenna, I threw a 45 foot piece of wire out a first floor bedroom window. I tossed the other end over a branch about 12 feet up. So I had 40 feet of wire outside the house, at an average height of about 7 feet.

In a short time I had worked several countries on four continents, North America, Europe, Africa, and South America, and three of those continents were worked on 40 meters. That is not totally unheard of with QRP power, or even poor antennas, but being able to do it with such a small, and elegant rig was a real thrill. My heartfelt congratulations to the Elecraft people for their beautiful concept, incredible design, and flawless execution of a rig, that is an absolute joy to use.

Oh, and since arriving home, and with access to my beam, my KX1 has accounted for another 26 countries in the CCWW.
