I've now finished the battery holder (Jeez .. I hate those little crimp 
connectors!) and on fresh Alkalines (abt 9.1 V) I am getting 1.2 -1.3 W 
on all bands into a dummy load.  Clearly less than the 1.5 - 2 W at 9 V 
specified in the manual, but not enough less that I am going to worry 
about it -- since mostly for TX I will use either a small inverter type 
supply or my 10 AA NiMH external pack, and that should get me into the 
3-4 W range per the above.

I still have the key to build: Maybe tomorrow.

The improvement I would like to see is a bit more audio.  There is 
enough, but I feel like there is not much headroom, because on weaker 
signals I have the AF gain almost all the way CW.  Perhaps there is a 
resistor at the LM386 which could increase audio with a changeout: 
Dunno, but I will noodle on it when I get a chance.
