[Elecraft] Re: Amplified Speakers for KX1 (and other rigs)

The Sony battery powered speakers sound like a very good compliment to the
KX1. Don't know what the price is though. In my case, and since I probably
would just use headphones when going portable, I had hooked up a very small set
of amplified speakers I found at Big Lots. Actually, there were a couple of
different models available. They are somewhat bigger than the Sony speakers
though, and run off AC. But the price was sure right--6 bucks! They work great
too. Check 'em out!

Another thing I do once in a while is to hook up one of those little FM
transmitters (I use the Irock, which is pricey but pretty effective) to the KX1's
output, then wear an FM radio headset, or any portable/pocket FM receiver for
that matter. Then you can boost the audio using the FM receiver, and you
aren't tethered to the rig. That way, when you are in "receive" mode, you can
stretch a bit.

Regarding the wattmeter accuracy thing, I have an OHR WM-1 which I just
recalibrated, so hopefully it is close. I have a couple of other wattmeters that
are "supposed" to be 5% plus or minus, and they seem to agree with my readings
on the WM-1. But I don't have anything of truly certifiable accuracy. For
those who want to really do it right, below is some info Gary (at Elecraft
support) sent me if you have a good O'scope:

Here are some pk-pk RF voltages, and the corresponding power level across a
50 ohm load:

1w 20vpp
2w 25.28Vpp
3w 34.64Vpp
4w 40Vpp
5w 44.7Vpp

Hope this info helps somebody.
