A good eyeglass and a comfortable chair and they are not that bad to wind.
On the larger number of turns I start in the middle.... thread half the wire
through the core wind one way, then turn over and wind the other.   If you
hold the core in the left hand between thumb and forefinger and thread the
wire from the underside to the top they will turn out as in the pictures.
When wound I count the number of turns through the core using eyeglass and a
sharp needle as a pointer.

Keep heart, worth it in the end!!
